A rally at the US Capital saw poker players asking their government to tax them. The poker players are hoping to convince the US government to legalize and regulate online poker. They are attempting to show that poker laws that support the online poker industry can be beneficial to the bottom line of running the country. As one sign carried by a poker player said, the general sentiment of the 50 or so participants was “Ease the Debt, Let Us Bet.” The rally was run by the Poker Players Alliance.

Steven Cohen left his law firm to play professional poker, but after failing to get a tax advantage has returned to practicing law. On a 2006 tax form he listed nearly $200k as business expenses, but they were actually his losses when playing poker, both in live tournaments and online poker. The poker player's tax report was not approved by the tax authorities because his poker playing was ruled as a hobby, not a business.
