This weekend a number of international sports stars will be playing a high stakes poker game. Reggie Corrigan and Tony Cascarino are playing the role of poker pros at the Irish Open. The online poker room sponsored poker event will take place in Dublin over Easter Weekend. With a €2 Million prize pool on the line there will be hundreds of poker players, including the international rugby stars and others like Teddy Sheringham, a former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur player.

A number of poker TV shows have been dropped from Fox programming according to a recent announcement. When the US government took action against a number of online poker rooms Fox and other networks moved to cancel poker shows. Following ESPN's example when they canceled their NAPT shows, Fox announced that they were pulling the Million Dollar Challenge and the PokerStars Big Game from their programing schedule. The only poker show that either network is likey to continue with is the World Series of Poker, but ESPN mentioned they would be pulling all advertising and signage that refers to online poker.

The World Series of Poker has announced they will include North Carolina in their Circuit events. The poker tournament will take place May 13th through May 15th. The WSOPC event will see poker players descend on Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in North Carolina to play in the$1,075 buy-in tournament. In addition to cash prizes the winner of the WSOPC event will get a $10,000 WSOP main event seat. This is the first time the World Series of Poker has come to North Carolina, and there will be no live dealers – instead the entire game will take place on electronic Poker Pro tables

According to a report by Reuters on Thursday, the United States could be facing a challenge from the World Trade Organization (WTO) after the crackdown on the online poker rooms PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker on April 15. Officials from the Caribbean nation of Antigua, which licenses Absolute Poker, are considering taking the case to the WTO for discriminatory trade practices.
