The future of the CEREUS Network sites UB.com and Absolute Poker appear to be in question. According to information obtained by Poker News Daily, the two USA-friendly sites will continue to allow existing USA players to fire up the virtual felts and play as normal. However, for the foreseeable future, they will be unable to deposit, withdraw, or transfer their funds. No official statement from either site has been released.
After yesterday’s indictment of its owners, PokerStars, formerly making its home on the URL PokerStars.com, will now move to PokerStars.eu according to a post from a site representative on TwoPlusTwo. The new domain loads normally from all parts of the world and boasts that nearly 150,000 players are logged in at the time of writing.
In nearly identical statements on Friday morning, it was revealed that merger talks between the British bookmaking operation Ladbrokes and the online gaming conglomerate 888 Holdings have been terminated.
The Twitterverse exploded this afternoon following the announcement that the U.S. Department of Justice had indicted the ownership behind such American-friendly online poker as PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, UB.com, and Absolute Poker. The DoJ has issued arrest warrants against 11 owners of these sites for several transgressions, including money laundering, bank fraud, and violations of the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
