This year may be the first time a state government in the United States runs an online poker room. Last year Washington, D.C., passed a law that would allow it's lottery department to run an online poker room. This year poker games may launch under a test pilot program, giving poker players a legal and regulated place to play, as long as they are residents of D.C. This would be the first time "intrastate" gambling was implemented in the US, something that has been roundly discussed but never put into action.

A quaint field of 92 players turned out for Day 1 of the Hollywood Poker Open, a stop on the World Poker Tour (WPT). Registration remains open until 1:00pm ET on Sunday prior to Day 2 of the $10,000 buy-in tournament and Ali Eslami leads the way with a stack of 147,000.

The 2011 World Poker Tour Hollywood Poker Open in Lawrenceburg, Indiana kicked off on Saturday with 92 players coming out for the $10,000 Championship Event. Ali Eslami finds himself at the top of the leader board with 57 remaining moving into Day 2.
