BANANAZOO Wins UBOC $162 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack Event
Last night, a flock of 500 players turned out to the virtual felts of UB.com. The occasion: a $162 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack event (#26) being held as part of the ongoing UB.com Online Championship (UBOC). In the end, Canada’s BANANAZOO came away with the outright win and earned $18,000 for his efforts. The top 56 players walked away with something to show for their evenings and a minimum payout of $263 was dished out.
BANANAZOO is just a few weeks removed from a win in the PokerStars Turbo $109 Cubed for $13,000. His other recent scores include a runner-up showing in the PokerStars $65,000 Guaranteed for $9,200 in August and a win in the PokerStars $40,000 Guaranteed in September for $9,000. He has over $100,000 in earnings from tournaments tracked by PocketFives.com to his name.
BANANAZOO was the chip leader entering the final table of UBOC 6 Event #26. The tournament served as a vindication of sorts, as he bubbled the final table of Event #20 just a few days ago and promptly turned down a heads-up deal last night. Text found on the UB.com Blog asserted that declining the chop might have been the correct move: “With a massive chip lead and proven Texas-sized confidence, chopping would have been his worst move of the night.”
Second place belonged to UB.com member SAILORPIG, who pulled down a healthy $11,000 consolation prize. In the final hand, BANANAZOO’s A-Q of hearts withstood SAILORPIG’s A-J when the board ran out 9-6-3-7-K. Neither player improved and, just like that, the un-chopped event came to an end.
Third place on the Event #26 leaderboard belonged to Felipe “PREDADOR737” Nunes, who made the final table of last weekend’s UBOC 6 Event #15 for $35,000. Last September, Nunes won the PokerStars $65,000 Guaranteed for $20,000 and, three weeks ago, he won the PokerStars $100 Rebuy for about the same amount. Nunes’ third place finish in yesterday’s lone UBOC event was worth $7,700.
Fourth place and a $5,200 bankroll boost went to ED_ANGELIS. He finished just ahead of PTW420, who came away with $4,300 in cash. Here’s how the final table cashed out in the UBOC $162 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack event on Friday night:
1. BANANAZOO – $18,448.50
2. SAILORPIG – $11,295.00
3. PREDADOR737 – $7,718.25
4. ED_ANGELIS – $5,271.00
5. PTW420 – $4,329.75
6. HOWDUCALLTHAT – $3,576.75
7. OREGONTILT – $2,823.75
8. GAMBLER2K4 – $2,070.75
9. JOHN HENRY I – $1,468.35

Useful poker information:
- MISDEAL - A hand dealt incorrectly that must be re-dealt.
- CASE - The fourth card of a particular rank, as in "he folded the case 9" when describing where all the 9s were in a hand. Comes from the game of Faro where an employee of the house, called the "case keeper". kept track of the number of each rank of card remaining.
- POSITION - One's location in the betting sequence, relative to the players still in the hand. First position is first to act.
- POSSIBLE [STRAIGHT/FLUSH] - Up cards that quite possibly could lead to a straight and/or a flush.
- SIDE POT - When an active player runs out of money during the course of a hand, the remaining players participate in a second or SIDE POT for the rest of the hand. Additional side pots are possible if several players run out of money at different points in a hand.
- BELLY BUSTER - An inside straight draw. Same as GUTSHOT.
