FTOPS XVII: Mike Chappus

Mike “chapmoney” Chappus was the first player to win two tournaments during the 17th installment of the Full Tilt Poker Online Poker Series (FTOPS) this week. Chappus, who won Event #3 ($300 Six-Handed Turbo No Limit Hold’em Shootout), followed it up with a victory in Event #24, a $200 No Limit Hold’em Cashout on August 12th. Chappus banked nearly $50,000 and claimed his second FTOPS XVII title.

Full Tilt Poker pros Brandon Adams, Chris Ferguson, and Eddy Scharf represented the Red Pros this week by making final tables of their own. Adams took down the $200 Limit Omaha High-Low Event #14 for $39,790, becoming the sixth Red Pro ever to win an FTOPS event. Ferguson made a deep run in the $300 No Limit Hold’em Event #13, taking fifth place for $68,855. Scharf reached the final table of Event #24, but bowed out in ninth place.

Among those joining Chappus and Adams in the winner’s circle last week were Mark “xqsays” Radoja, Jeremy “JBurleson” Burleson, Kyle “KJulius10” Julius, and Shaun “DE KID” Johnston. The biggest earner was “yahoo33,” who collected $301,400 for his victory in Event #16, a $1,060 No Limit Hold’em Event. “yahoo33” defeated online superstar Bjorn “kleath” Kleathersson to win the jersey.

Poker talk:

  • QUALIFIER - A minimum standard that a hand must meet in order to win. Usually applied to the lowball side of a high-low split pot.
  • TOP PAIR - In flop games, having a hole card that matches the highest card on the board.
  • ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
  • DECLARE - In high/low games, declaring one's hand as high or low or both ways (usually done with chips in hand). Usually played in home games; casinos tend to play CARDS SPEAK.
  • TO GO - The current betting level, as in "$20 to go" meaning every player must contribute $20 (total) or drop. A $10 raise would then make the pot "$30 to go".
  • RAISE - To wager more than the minimum required to call, forcing other players to put in more money as well.
