Brandon Cantu – Poker Player Profile
Originally from Vancouver, Washington, Brandon Cantu is a professional poker player who now makes his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
When people pick up the game of poker, they usually dream of the success and fortune that’s associated with the game’s best players, even if very few of them every actually achieve those goals. Brandon Cantu, however, stormed onto the poker scene in 2006 by winning a $1500 No Limit Hold’em World Series of Poker event for a staggering $757K.
It would have been very easy for Cantu to get complacent with his new-found riches, but he was at it again just a few months later, winning a $1500 tournament at the Fifth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $136K. After a string of near misses in 2007, Cantu once again hit it big, this time taking down the 2008 World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Stars $9600 No Limit Hold’em Championship Event for a cool $1 million. At the ’08 WSOP, he ran deep in the Main Event, ultimately busting in 20th place for $257K.
Cantu returned to the World Series of Poker in 2009 with only one thing on his mind: a second bracelet. He narrowly missed winning more hardware in a $1500 No Limit Hold’em Event by taking second for $404K. A few days later, though, he completed his mission, winning $1500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo for $228K, and more importantly, another bracelet.
Recently, Cantu started 2010 off with a bang by winning the $5000 No Limit Hold’em Wynn Classic for $363K. All told, he has over $3.5 million in live tournament earnings.
With two WSOP championships and a WPT title already under his belt, Brandon Cantu has nothing left to prove to the poker world. At 29, he is one of the most accomplished young players in the game and figures to be a force at the tables for years to come. When he’s not playing live, you can find Cantu playing online at UB.com, where he is a sponsored pro.
