2010 World Series of Poker Europe Schedule Released

On Wednesday, World Series of Poker (WSOP) officials released a media guide containing the details of the upcoming festivities in Las Vegas. Included in it was the rundown of the 2010 WSOP Europe.

Five events are on tap this time around, one more than in 2009. The WSOP Europe schedule will once again play out at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square in London and kick off on September 14th. Fourteen days later, a champion of the £10,350 buy-in WSOP Europe Main Event will be crowned. Last year featured the first ever running of the Caesars Cup, which pitted Team Americas, led by Daniel Negreanu, against Team Europe, headed by new Full Tilt Poker pro Annette “Annette_15” Obrestad. Team Europe won a decisive four matches out of five.

The kickoff tournament of the 2010 WSOP Europe schedule is a £2,650 No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event. The three-day tournament kicks off on September 14th and plays out its final table on September 16th. This is a brand new event to the WSOP Europe schedule.

The second event that will take place in London is a £5,250 Pot Limit Omaha contest. The tournament gets underway on September 16th and crowns a winner two days later. Last year’s WSOP Europe festivities began with a £1,075 No Limit Hold’em tournament, which is the third event on the docket this year. The tournament features three starting days, the first of which comes on September 17th. On September 21st, a champion of the least expensive contest on the slate will be determined.

The first ever WSOP Europe No Limit Hold’em High Roller Heads-Up tournament (#4) boasts a buy-in equal to that of the Main Event and gets underway on September 21st. The three-day event plays down to a winner on September 23rd and the top names in all of Europe are expected to turn out. The High Roller event marks the first time that a WSOP Europe preliminary tournament’s buy-in has ever matched that of the Main Event.

The 2010 WSOP Europe Main Event is the fifth and final tournament on the docket this year and begins on September 23rd with the first of two starting days. Here’s a look at the complete 2010 WSOP Europe schedule. All times are local:

Useful poker information:

  • DRAW OUT - To catch a card that improves your situation from a losing hand to a winning hand, especially when you beat someone holding a hand that usually figures to win.
  • MILES OF BAD ROAD - Three of a kind. Prefixed with a number, 3*<N>, to indicate 3 <N>s. Thus "24 miles of bad road" is 3 eights, etc. (This obviously doesn't work for face cards.)
  • HOLE CARDS - In Stud and Hold'em, the face-down cards dealt to each player.
  • TELL - Any personal mannerisms that reveal the quality of one's hand. E.g., constantly looking at one's hole cards is often a tell of a poor hand. (Some players, knowing this, will at times check their hole cards when they have a great hand and don't need to look.)
  • TRIPS - Three of a kind. In Hold'em the term SET is used when two of the three cards are hole cards.
  • MUCK - [1] A collection of face-down cards near the dealer composed of discards, i.e., folded hands, burns and discards for drawing purposes. [2] To throw one's cards into the muck, thus folding.
