Karina Jett – Poker Player Profile
Karina Jett was born August 16, 1974 in Saigon, Vietnam, but moved to Las Vegas, Nevada as a child. Her mother was a Seven-Card Stud player who taught her the ins and outs of the game as she neared age 21. Although she showed flashes of her potential poker skills, she moved away from home to study Political Science at college and never considered poker as a career option. However, not long after leaving home, Karina’s mother asked her to return home to help her run the family business and just like that, she was back in Vegas.
After a few months in her old stomping grounds, Karina ran into some former poker friends and soon found herself in the casino a few times a week. Before long, she realized she had a special talent for the game and decided to play full time to support her family. Initially a Stud player like her mother, Karina eventually switched to No Limit Hold’em as it became more popular. In addition being a profitable switch, the move to Hold’em also introduced her to her husband, Full Tilt Poker Pro Chip Jett.
Within the poker community, Jett is most known for her appearance on GSN’s Poker Royale Battle of the Sexes, and her history-making final table appearance alongside her husband at The London Open. Her other notable finishes include fourths in two World Series of Poker events: 2003’s Ladies Stud and 2004’s Ladies Limit Hold’em. All told, her live tournament earnings exceed $140K.
When she is not co-authoring a column in Card Player with Chip in which they answer reader questions in a ‘He said/She Said’ format, Karina Jett can be found playing at the Full Tilt Poker tables where she is a sponsored pro.

Poker glossary:
- SEAT POSITION - The actual seat a player has, normally numbered sequentially starting with 1 as the first seat to dealer's left. Not to be confused with POSITION in a particular pot. Typically unrelated to play of a hand but often important in peripheral aspects, e.g.: "Seats 1 and 10 are nonsmoking here", "Seat 5 has a good view of the table", "Seat 3 is in a high-traffic area".
- READ - To determine whether an opponent has a good, medium or bad hand by observing his personal behavior. An inexact science.
- REBUY - [1] To purchase additional chips after an initial buy-in, usually after losing most or all of the previous buy-in. This term is most often used in certain tournaments where if one loses all one's chips, or falls below a certain minimum chip level, for an additional sum of money one can purchase a fixed amount of additional tournament chips. Usually there is a time limit (The "REBUY PERIOD") as to how long rebuys are allowed. [2] The additional chips "rebought" in tournament play.
- FLOP - [1] In Hold'em, the first three community cards, dealt simultaneously. [2] To deal a flop, or to make a hand on a flop. "I flopped trips".
- RAKE - Money taken from each pot and given to the house in return for hosting the game. Usually a percentage of the pot (5%-10%) up to some maximum amount.
- OVERPAIR - In Hold'em, a pair in the hole that is larger than any community card on the board.
