PartyPoker Signs Kara Scott

It’s been an exciting few months for Kara Scott. The professional poker player and television presenter recently signed on as Gabe Kaplan’s new co-host of GSN’s “High Stakes Poker“ in November, and this week she became the newest member of “Team Party,” where she will represent PartyPoker.com at poker related events around the world.

Scott’s deal with PartyPoker features buy-ins for live tournaments all over the globe, including her homeland of Canada, where she will represent the site by playing in Canadian Poker Tour events. She will also host the upcoming PartyPoker Premier League IV in Las Vegas. Scott recently presented the action from the PartyPoker.com World Open V at the Palm Beach Casino in London.

“It is fantastic to have signed a deal to join Team Party,” said Scott, who won the PartyPoker.com Sports Stars Challenge III in 2008. “It works perfectly for me as I get the opportunity to further improve my game on the live circuit as well as carrying on presenting. I’m so excited about the future.”

Scott joins 2009 Poker Hall of Fame inductee Mike Sexton, Remy Biechel, Ian Frazer, Felipe “Mojave” Ramos, Stewart Scott, and Bodo Sbrzesny as part of Team Party.

“Kara is a great signing and we are really looking forward to working with her,” said a PartyPoker.com spokesperson. “She has historic links with PartyPoker.com after taking down the Sports Stars Challenge III and we have been super impressed by her progress since then. As well as being a great presenter, Kara is also a fantastic player with great results and the potential to go even further. We are excited about this new relationship.”

Along with her victory at the Sports Stars Challenge, Scott has several respectable tournament finishes on her resume. She made the final table of the PartyPoker Women’s World Open I in 2007, and in 2009 collected her biggest score ever by taking second in the Irish Open for €312,600. Scott is also the only woman to have cashed in both the 2008 and 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Events and only the second female ever in history to have cashed in two WSOP Main Events. In 2008, she finished 104th for $41,816 and in 2009 she took 238th place. Her live earnings are over $550,000.

Scott has been working in the media since 2002. She got her start as a sports presenter for a martial arts show called “ Now is the Time: Night of Combat” and eventually became an associate producer for the show. After hosting the first ever televised backgammon series, “High Stakes Backgammon,” in 2005, Scott realized her passion for poker by hosting “Poker Night Live,” the UK’s first live internet poker show. From there, Scott worked as a host for Sky Poker and the European Poker Tour before stepping down to focus more on a professional poker career. She was recently a guest on NBC’s “Poker After Dark.”

Season 6 of “High Stakes Poker,” featuring Scott as the new co-host, will begin airing in February on GSN. Scott will do commentary in the booth and interview players during breaks in the game.

SEMI-BLUFF - To bluff with a come hand that figures to win if it hits.

POT - The total amount of money bet so far in a hand.
SHARK - A good/crafty player often posing as a fish early in the game.
CASE - The fourth card of a particular rank, as in "he folded the case 9" when describing where all the 9s were in a hand. Comes from the game of Faro where an employee of the house, called the "case keeper". kept track of the number of each rank of card remaining.
