Poker tournament returns to Minot
Organizers of the sixth annual North Dakota Texas Hold’em Tournament at The Vegas hope to exceed last year’s number of participants. The poker tournament, which begins today with a free roll sponsored by The Landing, is expected to draw 1,500 people from North Dakota and other states and Canada.

Poker lexicon:
- STRAIGHT - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence but not in suit.
- LIVE ONE - The best kind of opponent, a poor player with a lot of money to lose and in a hurry to lose it.
- CHECK RAISE - To check initially, then raise a bet made later on in the same betting round. Frequently a sign of strength, but may be a bluff.
- FLUSH - A poker hand consisting of five cards all one suit.
- CUT - To break the deck into 2 stacks of at least 5 cards each. Usually performed by the player to the dealer's right to insure that the the deck is not stacked.
- HIT - To make a hand or catch a card or cards that improves one's hand. "I hit a gut-shot draw on the river."
