2009 November 18 Poker News, Events and Happenings
The high-stakes world of online poker has received a shot in the arm in the month of November. With online wunderkind Tom “durrrr” Dwan currently taking on fellow high-stakes players in a live Durrrr Challenge in London, the online world also sprung to life this week, with Danish professional Patrik Antonius capturing the largest pot in online poker history, $879,000.
One could argue we are in the midst of a televised poker renaissance, with the prevalence of poker-related shows like “2 Months, $2 Million,” “Face the Ace,” “PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge,” the recently announced “Shuffle Up and Deal,” and the new Fox Sports poker news show “Poker 2Nite,” which is set to premiere this evening. While these new shows are drawing attention to the poker world, a recently published list by the Onion’s AV Club is paying homage to a contemporary classic, “I Bet You.”
A cozy field of just 64 players turned out for the $5,150 buy-in World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Event Championship at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. In the end, bracelet winner Matt Keikoan emerged victorious from the pack and earned $106,000.
Tuesday’s opening round action in the live version of the Tom “durrrr” Dwan Million Dollar Challenge saw the youngster tango with Marcello “luckexpress” Marigliano. In the end, Marigliano edged Dwan by $22,500.
November 18 - The anonymous player has banked an incredible $6 million in only 3 weeks, leading to massive speculation in the industry.
On Tuesday night, 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event Champion Joe Cada appeared in an abbreviated segment of the “Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS. Also taking to the stage were actress Penelope Cruz and musical guests The Script.
