The Farmington VFD will be holding it’s 7th annual poker run to fight Muscular Dystrophy.
The 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) will certainly be remembered for dominating performances by Jeffrey Lisandro and Phil Ivey (especially if the latter wins the Main Event in November). Lisandro won three bracelets, all in Stud events, to capture WSOP Player of the Year honors, while Ivey won two bracelets before claiming a seat as part of the 2009 November Nine. While those two superstars took the poker world by storm, Poker News Daily was at the Rio all summer to catch some of the other memorable stories from the world’s largest poker event.

Matt “ch0ppy” Kay claimed his second win in a PokerStars Million Dollar Guaranteed tournament this past Sunday by taking first place in the monthly PokerStars Turbo Takedown. 24,445 players began the tournament, each putting up 2,000 frequent player points to participate but after hours of play, only Kay remained earning the prestigious title and $40,000. Considering the tournament buy-in was PokerStars FPPs, that’s not a bad return on investment!
The 2006 CardPlayer Online Player of the year runner-up, Kay has been one of the most consistent online tournament players for a number of years. With his victory on Sunday, “ch0ppy” adds another accomplishment to his already impressive resume of PokerStars titles. He also has victories in the $300 Wednesday “Quarter Million” for $48,318, the Sunday $200 ‘Second Chance’ for $50,525, and the biggest weekly poker tournament on the internet, the $200 Sunday Million worth $201,037. On top of these wins, he is a regular at the final table of the $100 Rebuy and has a third place finish in the $1,500 2x Chance SCOOP #4 worth $128,228.
PELHAM Former American Idol runner-up and Helena native Bo Bice will host the sixth-annual Armed Forces Poker Run and Silent Auction beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Heart of Dixie Harley Davidson.
