Live, hand-dealt poker remains an intimidating frontier for a majority of players. Sitting down to venture your bankroll against strangers possessing varying degrees of poker playing skill can be scary. You are forced to make a lot of decisions, and not necessarily cut-and-dried ones as in blackjack.

Poker lexicon:
- SHOWDOWN - The point at the end of the hand where all active players reveal their cards and the pot is awarded to the winner(s).
- TRIP - Three of a specific kind, as in "Trip sixes".
- DEAD MONEY - Money contributed to the pot by players who have folded.
- FILL - To draw a card that makes a five-card hand (straight, flush, full house, straight flush).
- BLANK - Used in describing stud and Hold'em games. Refers to a dealt card that does not offer any value; stating the actual rank and suit would detract from a description of the hand. "The last card was a blank.".
- SET - In Hold'em, three of a kind where two of the cards are hole cards.
