People and their pets take poker walk for PAWS
OROVILLE — Well over $800 was raised May 16 during Promotion of Animal Welfare Society’s annual poker walk, a fundraiser for its Mike Chestnut Spay-Neuter Clinic.

Poker argot:
- STAND OFF - To call a raise. "Opener raises, I stand off".
- HOLE CARDS - In Stud and Hold'em, the face-down cards dealt to each player.
- ONE-EYED - The jack of hearts, jack of spades or king of diamonds. So named because the characters are drawn in profile, thus showing only one eye.
- DEAD MAN'S HAND - Generically: two pair, aces and eights. Specifically: the black aces, black eights and nine of diamonds. The hand Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot to death.
- MISDEAL - A hand dealt incorrectly that must be re-dealt.
- RIVER - The last card dealt in a hand of stud or Hold'em.
