Poker convictions appealed
MOUNT PLEASANT Five poker players found guilty last week of illegal gambling are appealing their convictions. In a notice filed in Charleston County Circuit Court, the players address multiple points about their case as they seek to decriminalize the game Texas Hold ‘em.

- UNDERDOG - Before all the cards are dealt, a hand that does not figure to be the winner. Ant: FAVORITE.
- RUNNER-RUNNER - A hand made using both of the last two cards dealt.
- STUCK - Down a nontrivial amount of money, as in "he's stuck $800".
- BUTTON CHARGE - A periodic fee paid by whoever is the button, perhaps every 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Constitutes part or all of the HOUSE CUT.
- OVERCALL - To call a bet after one or more players already called.
