What is a poker run?
Saturday morning, before setting out on the 20th annual Murf the Surfs Ski Poker run, ski bums and other types sporting vicious beards had a thoughtful discussion about what, exactly, it is that makes the poker run, a Centennial tradition since 1989, so much fun.

Poker terminology:
- NICKEL - Five dollars, usually represented by a red casino check.
- EXPECTATION - The long-run [dis-]advantage of a given situation, specifically without reference to any particular outcome. I.e., what you figure to win [lose] on average after a large number of repetitions of the same situation.
- PASS - Opposite of bet. To check, if checked to. To fold, if bet to.
- ANTE - A small bet all players are required to make before a hand is dealt. Not all games have an ante. Related terms: BLIND, FORCED BET.
- TOKE - Gambling term for "tip", as in "Toke the cocktail waitress". Comes from the term "Token of appreciation".
- LOCK - A hand that cannot be beat under any circumstances. Also: NUTS.
