Local man qualifies for poker event
Perry Ernest of Naperville has a free seat at a $5,000 buy-in World Series of Poker event today at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. That’s because Ernest, 46, outlasted 1,186 other players last weekend to win a $300 buy-in event that kicked off a World Series of Poker qualifying round in Indiana. He took home $70,597 for winning that two-day tournament.

- LAY ODDS - To give favorable odds to an opponent.
- SPLIT [THE POT] - To split the pot between two or more players. Related term: QUARTER.
- PASS - Opposite of bet. To check, if checked to. To fold, if bet to.
- RUNNER-RUNNER - A hand made using both of the last two cards dealt.
