USC loses traction on BCS highway
After Penn State beat Ohio State, the Trojans are now looking down a path to the national title game that may require the football equivalent of drawing an inside straight in poker. Nothing seemingly changed in the second Bowl Championship Series standings, released Sunday afternoon by Fox with the usual drum roll and kazoo toot.

Useful poker terms:
- OPENER - The player who opens the betting, especially in draw poker. A hand may have no openers, in which case it is PASSED OUT, i.e., new hands are dealt.
- NICKEL - Five dollars, usually represented by a red casino check.
- SUITED - Two or more cards all the same suit. Ant: OFF-SUIT.
- LIVE [CARD] - In Stud, a card probably not held by other players.
- ONE-EYED - The jack of hearts, jack of spades or king of diamonds. So named because the characters are drawn in profile, thus showing only one eye.
- EVEN-MONEY - A bet that pays off exactly the amount wagered. E.g., "Double or nothing" is an even-money bet.
