Poker Ad Causes Uproar
When the Dawson Student Union of Montreal’s Dawson College hired an ad company to sell advertising space on a free day planner, they didn’t think they would have to specify “no poker”, but it looks like they should have. On the back of the planner, handed out to students where - according to the school’s administration - more than 1,500 are underage, there is an ad for Plaza 138 Poker. This poker room is from the nearby Kahnawake Mohawk Territory and advertises free alcohol in addition to poker…

- OPENER - The player who opens the betting, especially in draw poker. A hand may have no openers, in which case it is PASSED OUT, i.e., new hands are dealt.
- DEAD MAN'S HAND - Generically: two pair, aces and eights. Specifically: the black aces, black eights and nine of diamonds. The hand Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot to death.
- ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
- SUITED - Two or more cards all the same suit. Ant: OFF-SUIT.
- DEALER'S CHOICE - In home games, a rule that permits the dealer to name which poker game to be played that hand. Often limited to selecting from a list provided.
- BARN - A FULL HOUSE, three of a kind and a pair.
