Poker Run for a Cure
Boaters and poker players alike were running on water on Sunday’s Leukemia Cup Series, the annual aquatic poker run to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Capital Area Chapter. In this event boaters traveled to various spots via boat to pull together the best poker hand, collecting playing cards. Useful poker terms:
- FLUSH - A poker hand consisting of five cards all one suit.
- PASSED OUT. - A hand in which nobody opens. What happens next is a function of the game being played.
- POT LIMIT - A game where the maximum bet is determined by the size of the pot at the time. Note that a player wanting to raise first calls the bet, then totals the pot to determine the maximum amount he can raise.
- STAKE - The amount of a player's BUY-IN, or the amount of money they are willing to play with in a given session. Compare: BANKROLL.
- RIVER - The last card dealt in a hand of stud or Hold'em.
- QUALIFIER - A minimum standard that a hand must meet in order to win. Usually applied to the lowball side of a high-low split pot.
