Our view: Hike payouts at clubs, but nix the video poker plan
Representatives of local veteran groups this week urged the state House committee that regulates gambling to allow installation of video poker machines in their private clubs.

Poker glossary:
- JOKER - A 53rd card in the deck, distinct from the others, used as a wild card or as a BUG.
- FOUR OF A KIND - A hand containing all four cards of the same rank.
- CRYING CALL - A call made with little chance of ultimately winning, but marginally better than an immediate fold.
- DOYLE BRUNSON - In Hold'em, 10-2 in the hole. So named because Doyle Brunson won two straight WSOPs (q.v.) in 1975 and 1976 with 10-2 on the last hand. (Suited (spades) in 1975, unsuited in 1976).
- TOP TWO PAIR - In flop games, having hole cards that make the highest possible two pair hand.
- STUD - Any of several poker games in which some of each players' cards are exposed.
