The World Series of Poker is wrapped up until the final table resumes in November, and the ESPN coverage of the WSOP is about to be showcased on TV, and the fans of the poker world can’t wait. In addition to the excitement of the poker being played there is the drama - such as Phil Hellmuth’s infamous berating of his table mates late in the tournament series - and the fun. Poker dictionary:
- SHARK - A good/crafty player often posing as a fish early in the game.
- SUITED - Two or more cards all the same suit. Ant: OFF-SUIT.
- FREEZE-OUT - A table-stakes game that continues until a small number of players (possibly only one) has all the money. The major event in The World Series of Poker is a freeze-out game.
- HIT - To make a hand or catch a card or cards that improves one's hand. "I hit a gut-shot draw on the river."
- SHILL - A card room employee who plays with House money, and does not share in any of his (her) winnings or losses. Shills are used to facilitate starting games, and keeping them going. Compare: PROP.
- STAND OFF - To call a raise. "Opener raises, I stand off".
