World Series of Poker opens first day of play
With each seat costing $10,000, more than 1,000 players arrived in Las Vegas Thursday for the World Series of Poker opener. High-profile players and unknowns are competing to win millions of dollars and the games ultimate crown.

- BAD GAME - Any game in which you figure to be the loser, because the other players are better than you.
- STAKE - The amount of a player's BUY-IN, or the amount of money they are willing to play with in a given session. Compare: BANKROLL.
- SHOWDOWN - The point at the end of the hand where all active players reveal their cards and the pot is awarded to the winner(s).
- ALL-IN - To have all of one's chips in the pot. A player who is all-in cannot be forced out of the pot by more betting, but is only eligible to win that portion of the pot he has contributed to. Generally, a SIDE POT is created each time a player is all-in.
- RUNNER-RUNNER - A hand made using both of the last two cards dealt.
- FLAT LIMIT - A variant of fixed limit where all bets are the same amount.
