The very first charity Texas Holdem poker tournament was held recently under the new gaming laws in New Brunswick, and among the 81 poker players was the justice minister for the province. Described as an “avid poker fan” the minister, TJ Burke, was allowed to play under the new law - along with the rest of the players, because at least 45 percent of the prize pool was going to a charity event, and only 35 percent given out as prize money. Under these restrictions a poker tournament for charity in New Brunswick is legal.
