New Swedish Poker Study May Result in New Poker in Sweden
A study which was recently held in Sweden examined the motivation of poker players to choose a privately run poker site over a government run poker site, opening up a great number of possible futures for poker in the country. The only legal poker site in Sweden is Svenska Spel, which is run by the government, but apparently it does not hold large enough tournaments with big enough prizes to satisfy the Swedish poker playing public. This, along with the lack of sign-up bonuses not possible with Svenska Spel, could open the way for privately run poker sites in Sweden’s future.

Poker glossary:
- SHILL - A card room employee who plays with House money, and does not share in any of his (her) winnings or losses. Shills are used to facilitate starting games, and keeping them going. Compare: PROP.
- TOKE - Gambling term for "tip", as in "Toke the cocktail waitress". Comes from the term "Token of appreciation".
- OPEN - Make the first bet in a hand, especially in draw poker.
- DOYLE BRUNSON - In Hold'em, 10-2 in the hole. So named because Doyle Brunson won two straight WSOPs (q.v.) in 1975 and 1976 with 10-2 on the last hand. (Suited (spades) in 1975, unsuited in 1976).
- MILES OF BAD ROAD - Three of a kind. Prefixed with a number, 3*<N>, to indicate 3 <N>s. Thus "24 miles of bad road" is 3 eights, etc. (This obviously doesn't work for face cards.)
- POT ODDS - The amount of money in the pot divided by the amount of money you must bet in order to call. Often used to determine if a pot offers enough reward to play on the come.
