WPT Loses Out on TV
This year the orders for TV episodes have been cut nearly in half for the World Poker Tour Enterprises’ flagship show, the World Poker Tour, resulting in a huge loss of income. The WPTE has delivered only 22 episodes, where last year they put out 45. Poker argot:
- UNDERDOG - Before all the cards are dealt, a hand that does not figure to be the winner. Ant: FAVORITE.
- LIVE [CARD] - In Stud, a card probably not held by other players.
- HOYLE - Edmund Hoyle (1769-?) was the authoritative source for rules of card games. Hoyle is to card rules as Webster is to word definitions.
- FULL OF - Describes a full house. "Fives full of queens" is 5-5-5-Q-Q.
- TO GO - The current betting level, as in "$20 to go" meaning every player must contribute $20 (total) or drop. A $10 raise would then make the pot "$30 to go".
- PAY OFF - Calling a bet with little expectation of winning, unless the opponent is bluffing.
