Swedish Tax Board Eyes Poker Players for Tax Evasion
When Skatteverket, the tax board in Sweden, announced that online poker sites were going to be targeted for tax evasion crimes, the blogosphere said not to worry: individual poker players would not be harassed. It turns out they were wrong to think so, as a recent report suggests that nearly fifty online poker playing individuals have been targeted by Skatteverket for tax evasion suspicions. This would represent nearly €45 million in unclaimed income, and more than ten percent of that belonging to individuals as opposed to poker companies.
