State rule trumps some poker runs
As many as 30 snowmobile clubs across the state have canceled their fundraising poker runs this winter after being told they needed to buy a state gambling license, according to Maine Snowmobile Association officials.

Poker glossary:

- OPENERS - Cards in a hand that qualify a player to open the betting.
- GUT SHOT - A draw to an inside straight, as in 2-3-4-6.
- STRAIGHT FLUSH - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence and the same suit.
- FILL - To draw a card that makes a five-card hand (straight, flush, full house, straight flush).
- ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
