Poker: Rules avoid confusion, maybe even losing money
There is no question that poker is a game of many fine details. Most players know the ranks of hands and general flow of a game, but there are a lot of hidden rules that can be easy to forget. It’s always embarrassing when you do.

Poker dictionary:
- MIDDLE POSITION - Betting positions approximately halfway around the table from the first player to act.
- PAT HAND - In draw poker, a hand that does not need any more cards. Specifically, a straight, flush, full house or straight flush. One might bluff and represent a pat hand but actually hold something else.
- WHITE BLACKBIRD - A hand so astonishingly rare as to be unworthy of the opponents' consideration, e.g., being dealt a pat royal flush in 5-card draw.
- OVERCALL - To call a bet after one or more players already called.
- EXPECTATION - The long-run [dis-]advantage of a given situation, specifically without reference to any particular outcome. I.e., what you figure to win [lose] on average after a large number of repetitions of the same situation.
- HOLE CARDS - In Stud and Hold'em, the face-down cards dealt to each player.
