The traditional way to wrap up a season of the World Series of Poker is to play the $10,000 championship event, but this next season will be run a bit differently: they are going to start the season with a $10,000 championship event. They are still ending the WSOP with the Main Event, a $10,000 No Limit Holdem championship event, but they are planning on more than one. The first event will be a $10,000 Pot Limit championship event, and a few more events will have “championship” appended on them, all in different poker disciplines or special entry events, like the Seniors.

Thursday saw an indictment unsealed that fingered former Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford, charging Medford and three former deputies with participation in an illegal video poker ring. According to prosecutors, the Sheriff and his deputies were assisting video poker operators via non enforcement of the law, not to mention accepting money to protect the illegal video poker ring. The new Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan says that through transparency and accountability he is working hard to reestablish the trust his department needs with the citizens in order to do their job properly.
