Poker Company Says Machines Not Addictive
In Australia, gambling giant Tatts is looking for a way to add more poker machines but is running into the ceiling imposed to keep the numbers to a set level. The company said in a statement that they do not think that poker machines are addictive, saying that the money spent on the machines is a form of entertainment. Poker jargon:
- LOWBALL - Generic term for poker where the lowest hand wins.
- FREE CARD - A card dealt after all players checked in a betting round.
- OPENERS - Cards in a hand that qualify a player to open the betting.
- BUTTON CHARGE - A periodic fee paid by whoever is the button, perhaps every 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Constitutes part or all of the HOUSE CUT.
- CUT - To break the deck into 2 stacks of at least 5 cards each. Usually performed by the player to the dealer's right to insure that the the deck is not stacked.
- LAY ODDS - To give favorable odds to an opponent.
