Massachusetts Governor Floats Odd Poker Bill
While the Governor of Massachusetts puts out a bill opposing Internet gambling, some hidden language has other lawmakers crying foul. Governor Deval Patrick is seeking jail terms of up to two years and a $25,000 fine for violators who are caught participating in online bet placement, yet in the bill he also is seeking licenses for three resort casinos in the state. Opponents find it incongruous that the Governor would support live gambling in the state and oppose online gambling, unless perhaps he had a vested interest in driving business to the live venues.
