Poker Used to Showcase Technology
Coming up in September is the AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 West, a time for web technology experts to showcase their wares and demonstrate their skills - and have a little fun playing poker. Coinciding with the event will be the AJAXWorld Poker Tournament, open to all participants free of charge. Useful poker information:
- SHORT-STACKED - Playing with a only a small amount of money, thus limiting one's risk and reward.
- MITES AND LICE - A hand consisting of two pair, threes over twos.
- POT ODDS - The amount of money in the pot divided by the amount of money you must bet in order to call. Often used to determine if a pot offers enough reward to play on the come.
- KICKER - In hands containing pairs and trips, the highest card not matched. In draw games, sometimes a card kept for deception purposes.
- CHECK RAISE - To check initially, then raise a bet made later on in the same betting round. Frequently a sign of strength, but may be a bluff.
- ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
