Irish Poker Event Hopes to be Largest Ever
The International Poker Open has a very specific goal beyond running a successful event this October: they want to be the largest European poker event in history. They have a lot of competition from past and future events, however, with the 2007 Irish Open holding the current record with 708 players and the upcoming World Series of Poker Europe certain to draw huge crowds. Poker terminology:
- RAISE - To wager more than the minimum required to call, forcing other players to put in more money as well.
- LATE POSITION - For a particular betting round, a player who does not have to act until most of the other players have acted.
- FLAT LIMIT - A variant of fixed limit where all bets are the same amount.
- POCKET ROCKETS - In Hold'em, a pair of aces for hole cards.
- NUT / NUTS - The best possible hand of a given class. Not a LOCK unless all cards have been dealt. The "nut flush" is the highest possible flush, but might still lose to, e.g., a full house. Usually used in Hold'em games.
- SUICIDE KING - King of Hearts. So named because in the drawing the king appears to be stabbing himself in the head.
