Humans take on computer in poker tournament
The first official poker competition between humans and computers is due to start tonight at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver. Two professional poker players, Phil Laak and Ali Esmali, will play against a computer program called Polaris, developed by the University of Alberta , during the AAAI’s annual conference.

Poker slang:
- POT ODDS - The amount of money in the pot divided by the amount of money you must bet in order to call. Often used to determine if a pot offers enough reward to play on the come.
- GOOD GAME - A game with players worse than you so that you can expect to win a lot of money.
- SIXTH STREET - The sixth card dealt in 7-card stud.
- RAGS - Board cards that are small, not suited and not in sequence, e.g., 9-5-2. When "rags flop", it is unlikely that anyone has a good hand, except possibly the big blind in an unraised pot.
- RAKE - Money taken from each pot and given to the house in return for hosting the game. Usually a percentage of the pot (5%-10%) up to some maximum amount.
- FILL - To draw a card that makes a five-card hand (straight, flush, full house, straight flush).
