Catawba appeals video poker decision
SOUTH CAROLINA — As reported by the South Carolina Herald: “The Catawba Indian Nation is taking its fight for video poker to the nation’s highest court.

Poker terminology:
- LOOSE - Playing more hands than the norm. Antonym: TIGHT.
- RAIL - A barrier dividing the card playing area from a public area.
- OPEN-ENDED STRAIGHT - Four cards to a straight which can be completed by drawing a card at either end. E.g., 6-7-8-9 is an open-ended straight. Also: BOBTAIL STRAIGHT. Compare: INSIDE STRAIGHT.
- ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
- RAGS - Board cards that are small, not suited and not in sequence, e.g., 9-5-2. When "rags flop", it is unlikely that anyone has a good hand, except possibly the big blind in an unraised pot.
- FREE CARD - A card dealt after all players checked in a betting round.
