Silly Hijinks at the WSOP
Last year two poker pros got some attention by making a prop bet that resulted in the loser dressing in superhero costumes during the opening days of the WSOP main event. This year both players, Joe Sebok and Gavin Smith, re-upped the bet, but added in last year’s super star Jeff Madsen as a player. Poker lingo:
- DOUBLE BELLY BUSTER - A two-way inside straight. E.g., 3-5-6-7-9.
- OVER - A term used in describing two pair or a full house. "Kings over tens" means two pair, kings and tens. "Jacks over", also "Jacks up" describes a hand that is two pair: Jacks with an unspecified lower pair. Also used to describe a full house, distinguishing the three of a kind from the pair. The hand J-J-J-A-A could be described as "Full house, Jacks over Aces".
- POSITION - One's location in the betting sequence, relative to the players still in the hand. First position is first to act.
- RUSH - A winning streak. Also "ON A RUSH".
- CUT - To break the deck into 2 stacks of at least 5 cards each. Usually performed by the player to the dealer's right to insure that the the deck is not stacked.
- FLOP - [1] In Hold'em, the first three community cards, dealt simultaneously. [2] To deal a flop, or to make a hand on a flop. "I flopped trips".
