Hollywood’s Van Patten links athletics with poker
Vince Van Patten is all in. He will play in the World Series of Poker’s main event starting July 6 in Las Vegas. He co-hosts the World Poker Tour telecasts and recently published his first novel, a Texas Hold’em murder mystery. The son of Dick Van Patten is also another sign of poker going Hollywood.

Poker dictionary:
- FULL HOUSE - A hand consisting of 3-of-a-kind and a (different) pair.
- COMPUTER HAND - Texas Hold'em hole cards of Q-7 offsuit. More generically, any hand that computer analysis/simulation determines is positive but turns out to be difficult to play in practice.
- OVERPAIR - In Hold'em, a pair in the hole that is larger than any community card on the board.
- DEAD MAN'S HAND - Generically: two pair, aces and eights. Specifically: the black aces, black eights and nine of diamonds. The hand Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot to death.
- STAND OFF - To call a raise. "Opener raises, I stand off".
- FOLD - To decline to call a bet, thus dropping out of a hand.
