LOCAL poker player Lorna McDermid has returned home from London with £8000 after taking third place in the second Ladbrokes European Ladies’ Championship poker tournament at the weekend.

Poker terminology:
- MARKED CARDS - Cards that have been (illegally) altered so that their value can be read from the back.
- TAP - In no-limit games, to wager all of one's money in one bet.
- FAVORITE - Before all the cards are dealt, a hand that figures to be the winner. Ant: UNDERDOG.
- RIVER - The last card dealt in a hand of stud or Hold'em.
- UNDER THE GUN - The position that has to act first in a round of betting.
- FISH - A player who loses money. An old saying is "If you can't spot the fish at the table, *you* are the fish.".
