Party Poker Players Warned to Watch Out
Phishing is the term used when scam artists try to get a consumer’s personal information in order to steal money from them, and now it appears that phishers have decided to go after online poker players. Members of online poker room Party Poker have been receiving emails about gaming regulations and asked to log on to their Party Poker account via a link in the email in order to learn how it will impact them. Poker lingo:
- QUARTER - [1] Twenty-five dollars, often symbolized by a green casino chip. [2] To divide half a pot between two tying hands. In split pot games, a player who "ties" another player for their half of the pot is said to be "quartered". One might say "I didn't bet my A-2 because I figured I'd get quartered".
- S&M - Sklansky & Malmuth. Generally refers to the ideas and algorithms published by these two authors. When used in a 7-card stud context, often refers to "7 Card Stud For Advanced Players", and when used in a Hold'em context, often refers to "Texas Hold'em For Advanced Players".
- FOURTH STREET - In stud poker, the fourth card dealt to each player. Sometimes used to refer to the fourth community card dealt in Hold'em, although the more common term for this is TURN (q.v.).
- PASSED OUT. - A hand in which nobody opens. What happens next is a function of the game being played.
- JOKER - A 53rd card in the deck, distinct from the others, used as a wild card or as a BUG.
- QUALIFIER - A minimum standard that a hand must meet in order to win. Usually applied to the lowball side of a high-low split pot.
