(Newberry County) February 22, 2007 - Some residents in Newberry County are pushing to legalize poker machines. They say it’s one way to fight high property taxes.
East Brunswick Hadassah will present a Peace-Treaty Poker and Silent Auction at 8 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane. Peace-Treaty Poker is a fast-paced game in which each hand is played against a different pair of players. The silent auction will feature numerous prizes. Refreshments will be served.

Legislation was proposed on Wednesday to allow poker machines at Rota ports. Rep. Crispin M. Ogo introduced House Bill 15-234 to authorize the Commonwealth Ports Authority to operate poker machines at the Rota airport and seaport.
