Poker bills have been drawing some bad hands in the North Dakota Legislature. And today the state House defeated a bill to allow North Dakota charities to run poker tournaments more frequently. The vote was 66 to 26 against. Charities now

- OPENER - The player who opens the betting, especially in draw poker. A hand may have no openers, in which case it is PASSED OUT, i.e., new hands are dealt.
- JOKER - A 53rd card in the deck, distinct from the others, used as a wild card or as a BUG.
- OPEN - Make the first bet in a hand, especially in draw poker.
- POT - The total amount of money bet so far in a hand.
- FLOP - [1] In Hold'em, the first three community cards, dealt simultaneously. [2] To deal a flop, or to make a hand on a flop. "I flopped trips".
- OVERCALL - To call a bet after one or more players already called.
