Poker player’s perspective
Our generation has grown up during a major technological era and has therefore seen its share of new forms of entertainment, from flat-screen TVs to DVDs, video games and the Internet. With so many technological advances in recent years, it may come as a surprise to some that one of the most popular forms of entertainment for college students comes in a game that is centuries old: poker.

Poker jargon:
- FOUR OF A KIND - A hand containing all four cards of the same rank.
- HOUSE RULE - Rules and interpretations (e.g., use of wild cards, or rules on having to show beaten hands) that are specific to an establishment or even tables within the establishment.
- SHORT-STACKED - Playing with a only a small amount of money, thus limiting one's risk and reward.
- S&M - Sklansky & Malmuth. Generally refers to the ideas and algorithms published by these two authors. When used in a 7-card stud context, often refers to "7 Card Stud For Advanced Players", and when used in a Hold'em context, often refers to "Texas Hold'em For Advanced Players".
- LIVE [CARD] - In Stud, a card probably not held by other players.
- OVERCALL - To call a bet after one or more players already called.
