Sixty four of the world’s best poker players will be taking their seats to play in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship for the third year in a row. Phil Hellmuth, known as the Poker Brat, won the event against Chris Ferguson in 2005, and Chris was again at the final table in 2006, but was beaten by winner Ted Forrest. In this unique event that will take place in the Caesars Palace Poker Tournament Room, players will compete in what is called the “purest form” of poker, one on one, heads-up competitions…

 

Bodog’s recent announcement that they are dropping 2006 World Series of Poker winner Jamie Gold from their roster of poker champs doesn’t seem to have hindered their big time online poker tournaments with a double sized Sunday event. The $100K Guaranteed tournament became a $200K Guaranteed event, with the same buy in of $109. The move will certainly draw in the crowds, and if there are not enough players to cover the guarantee, the Bodog will cover the overlay - and if more than enough join, then the prize pool will increase by the appropriate amount.

French club Le Salon des Ambassadeurs has a tournament coming in the near future, and online poker room Poker Stars is not welcome, according to recent reports. The images of the Poker Stars logo have been banned from the tournament. Online poker in general seems to be taking the hit from French authorities, and online poker advertising in specific, starting with a September 2006 action against the executives of sports betting site BWIN when they were arrested in the South of France…

 

I play, or I should say I used to play, in a weekly pot limit home game. Two excellent players, and a couple of very good players dominated the game. There were a couple of us who barely held our own….

 

The Bay Bridge crosses San Francisco Bay from the City of San Francisco on the west side to what city on the east side? Most non-Bay Area residents might guess Oakland or perhaps Berkeley…

 

One of the toughest things in poker is betting with nothing. Perhaps one of the only things tougher than that is calling with nothing. Both moves require a lot of courage and a good read on your opponent, and both are essential to winning no-limit hold ‘em tournaments.

 

Its a chance that thousands of regional poker players will take during the next week and a half, as the World Series of Poker brand that eats up…
