Online Poker an Addiction for Brits
According to a recent survey of British use of online applications, Brits are considered to be addicted to online poker. Nielsen/NetRatings, the company that monitors British online activity, says that Britons who have Internet access spend as much as ten hours a month playing online poker. That number may not sound like a lot, but when compared to the average of three and a half hours using any Internet application, the report is suggesting that Brits are addicted to poker…

Poker jargon:
- IN - Still eligible to win the pot. "I'm in" is often spoken as one adds chips to the pot, calling.
- WORLD SERIES OF POKER - A series of several different poker games with relatively large buy-ins, culminating in a $10,000 buy-in no-limit Hold'em tournament, the winner of which is crowned the World Poker Champion. Sponsored by Binion's Horseshoe Club in Las Vegas.
- LOWBALL - Generic term for poker where the lowest hand wins.
- TAPPED [OUT] - Out of money. Can refer to a player running out of money in the course of a hand, thus still active for the main pot; or can refer to a player who has lost his bankroll and can no longer play.
- CHECK RAISE - To check initially, then raise a bet made later on in the same betting round. Frequently a sign of strength, but may be a bluff.
- BIG BLIND - A blind bet, usually a raise of an earlier blind which would be called the SMALL BLIND. In limit poker, the BIG BLIND is usually the size of the minimum bet on the first round of betting.
