Poker Court Case Adds Evidence
While the UK court hearing the case of the Gutshot Club in Clerkenwell has to decide whether or not poker is a game of skill or chance to determine the club owner’s guilt or innocence of the charge, evidence of the club owner taking a cut from poker games was introduced. Derek Kelly, 46, says the two charges against him for violating the Gaming Act don’t hold water, because the game of poker is a game of skill. Police countered with evidence that on two occasions they observed the club taking a cut from the poker proceedings, and that was the part that brought the charges forward.
