With the Aussie Millions taking place in Melbourne this month, traveling Australian and New Zeland poker players are coming home to roost, and American and other international stars are following them Down Under. WSOP champ Joe Hachem will be there, ready to play and hawk his Pass the Sugar merchandise, and New Zealander Lee “Final Table” Nelson will come as well. Kenna “Cowboy” James will be just one American pro among many, and even celebs like actor Michael Vartan will be playing…

 

The third season of GSN’s High Stakes Poker kicks off on January 15th at 9pm with Jamie Gold, the 2006 World Series of Poker champion, taking a seat along with other players. When Gold won the WSOP, he came into the event after training under legendary Johnny Chan, but the High Stakes Poker show is a bit different than the WSOP. In the latter a player pays as much as ten or fifty thousand dollars to play in an event, but the HSP show is a cash game, which means Gold could lose a lot more than a buy in, as could many of the other players…

 

When the Super 8 Motel at the Millbrook First Nation was the destination for a poker tournament with a prize pool of $10,000, all seemed well and good for the MaritimePoker.com sponsored event, until motel authorities said they would not go ahead with the event without express permission from the province. The event was shifted then to Calico’s Lounge in downtown Truro. Not only are the police watching the event, but the RCMP is looking in on it as well, promising to make the evening tense regardless of the action on the tables.
