Last month the biggest rumor regarding online poker rooms was that Ladbrokes - the UK online gaming giant - was set to take over 888 Holdings, the parent company of Casino-on-Net and Pacific Poker. A takeover bid was in the works, according to the rumors, and recent indications suggest that those rumors were at least partially true. Poker terminology:
- ROLLED UP - In seven-card stud, being dealt three of a kind in the first three cards.
- OPENERS - Cards in a hand that qualify a player to open the betting.
- FULL OF - Describes a full house. "Fives full of queens" is 5-5-5-Q-Q.
- SEAT POSITION - The actual seat a player has, normally numbered sequentially starting with 1 as the first seat to dealer's left. Not to be confused with POSITION in a particular pot. Typically unrelated to play of a hand but often important in peripheral aspects, e.g.: "Seats 1 and 10 are nonsmoking here", "Seat 5 has a good view of the table", "Seat 3 is in a high-traffic area".
- TRIPS - Three of a kind. In Hold'em the term SET is used when two of the three cards are hole cards.
- FLAT LIMIT - A variant of fixed limit where all bets are the same amount.
