Perhaps it is a sign of things to come in the entertainment world, or perhaps it is because poker has been recently welcomed into the land of China, but the notoriously tough Chinese censors have done something that runs counter to what they have done dozens of times before - they approved a James Bond film. The British Superspy has not always been pitted against the Chinese as enemies, but the authorities in the People’s Republic had nevertheless banned the previous movies. The latest Bond movie, Casino Royale, has been approved for showing in China.

When the inaugural Betfair Asian Poker Tour Main Event began, it was anyone’s game. The Mandarin Ballroom was converted into a poker room for around 400 players in the luxurious Meritus Mandarin Hotel in Singapore.
